KNOWING OR NOT KNOWING? GROWING YOUR OWN

Q1. The way to do watering.

A1. As below:

The best watering hours is between 05:00 and 10:00 in the morning.  Noon time is in-appropriate period to do watering, as the temperate is high during this period, there is possibility to burn the root when watering.  When you forgot watering, wait for the sunset when temperature has gone down. Water will evaporate slower.  During summer, it is alright to do watering in the morning and in the evening.

Q2. What should be do before planting?

A2. As below:

  1. Clear the grass and weeds.  Dig it over, make sure you've got rid of any roots.
  2. To loosen the soil.  Depends on the situation of the soil, you may add some sand or composit soil.
  3. To sterilize, add nutrients and adjust soil pH by mixing Tea Seed Powder, Trace Element Powder, Bone Meal, Peanut Meal and Dolomite WDG to the soil.
  4. Start planting 1 week after Step C.

Q3. Whether soaking seeds before planting is necessary?

A3. Soaking seeds before planting is an old-time gardener’s trick.

As seeds were designed to be dispersed, they have developed over millions of years with defenses to survive awful conditions.  Soaking seeds before planting helps to break down the seed’s natural defenses against what it expects from Mother Nature, which may allows it to germinate faster.  The length of soaking time is totally depending on hardness of the seeds, it varies from 2 to 12 hours.  The seeds will start to decompose when too much soaking.  Therefore, whether soaking seeds is necessary, it depends on your own.

Q4. Why is thinning so important?

A4. A smaller number of plants planted the proper distance apart will always give you a larger and higher-quality harvest.

After the plants emerge from the soil, let them grow for a little while (a week or two), then pull up some of the plants. Such that the remaining plants (the biggest, healthiest looking ones) are approximately the distance apart recommended.

Q5. What does extra boost of fertilizer mean?

A5. When flowering stage, plants need extra nutrient help it grows better.

There are different stages when growing plants.  During flowering stage, it will take a lot more nutrient to let the fruits and vegetables grow thrive, have good crops. That's why we need to add extra boost of fertilizer.

Q6. What are beneficial of planting herbs among vegetables?

A6. Herbs are not only adding flavor to foods, they can also dispel harmful insects.  Examples are as below.

Q7. Do you know not all Tomato can be supported by flower pot?

A7. Tomato can be classified as Indeterminate tomato, determinate tomato and semi-determinate tomato.

Q8. When to fertilize?

A8. As below:

When growing plants with fruits, at seedling stage, choosing fertilizer relatively more “Nitrogen (N)”.  Before starting flowering stage, choosing fertilizer relatively more “Phosphorus (P)”.  When flowering, choosing fertilizer relatively more “Potassium (K)”, and mix them with Phosphorus (P).  However don’t use overdose potassium, otherwise, the soil will be hardened and it will prevent plants to absorb nutrients.

In general, not all fertilizers have added Trace Elements.  We can mix Seaweed fertilizer, Trace Element Powder or compost soil with other NPK.

Q9. Do you know flowers play an important role in any organic vegetables garden?

A9. There are benefits of growing flowers in vegetable gardens, they attract insects that eat pests as well as insects that aid pollination.  However, the criteria for selecting them are different to ornamental gardens.  Examples as below.

Q10. Is house plant re-potting necessary?

A10. By re-potting plant into a bigger pot and refreshing the soil, the plant will be given more space and nutrient boost, and it will have a beautiful new growth.

When you have noticed the root has bound, which means it needs new space so badly, and water will seep out of the bottom of the pot as a result during watering. Besides, the plant absorbs its foods through nutrients in the soil.  After a period of time, the soil becomes increasingly depleted. Therefore, once you have changed a bigger growing pot and refill some new soil, it will provide a nutrient boost and grow happier and faster.

Q11. Way of extra boost solid fertilizer.

A11. One of the methods is that dig a ditch around the plant and add solid fertilizers to it.

When doing so, avoiding near the roots. The purpose of it is to avoid burning the roots when fermentation of fertilizers.

Q12. Why there are black spots appears or bacteria affected when growing Microgreens?

A12. Make sure there is good air circulation and the growing medium is clean, not be affected with bacteria as well as hydrophobic.

If black spots appear or bacteria affected when growing Microgreens, trim the affected parts in avoiding affecting others.  Then, take note that they must be put in a good air-circulated area, and don't over watering.  If those situation appears in the early stage, do the same but also put them in a place with light.  Be reminded that not over watering.   Let's see whether the situation will be improved.  Besides, make sure the growing medium like soil is hydrophobic and not affected with bacteria.
